Placing importance on individuals wanting to be seen, heard, and understood
Since November 2006 I have been working at a private hospital in England. I have provided consultations to several thousand individuals from many countries, including Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, India, and of course the United Kingdom. A portion of these foreign individuals spoke little or no English, and often required a translator, which posed obvious communication challenges. From these, and all my other interactions with people, I have learnt a great deal, especially in relation to the importance individuals place on wanting to be seen, heard and understood, and on these aspects I place significant emphasis.
From September 2014 until May 2019 I was a volunteer counsellor at the national charitable organisation Bucks Mind in Buckinghamshire, England, and I have encountered individuals presenting with an extremely broad range of psychological issues. Since February 2018 I have worked as a volunteer counsellor in the Bucks New University Counselling Department in Buckinghamshire, England. The principle reason that I volunteer is that I do not feel individuals should be prevented from obtaining psychological help because of lack of financial resources. So you can probably imagine that I was both surprised and honoured to receive a volunteer award for my counselling contributions. To read more about this please click on the following link.
